Child Safety Standards
Last updated: October 17, 2026
hum is an app for sharing daily voice memos with friends, run by Cal Nightingale, an independent developer. This page sets out hum's standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), and what happens when someone reports it.
Zero tolerance
hum prohibits child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content or behavior that sexually exploits or endangers children. That includes grooming, sexualizing minors, sextortion, and trafficking, in any form: voice memos, voice replies, profile photos, names, bios, or prompts. Accounts that break this rule are removed permanently.
Who can use hum
hum is for people 18 and older. Everyone confirms their age when they sign up, and where Apple or Google shares an account's age range, the app checks it too. hum has no public feed or browsable directory: people hear only the friends they have each accepted. If the app store reports an account as under 18, or we otherwise learn it belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
How to report a concern
In the latest version of the app, report the hum, voice reply, or profile involved, which reaches us right away, or send feedback from the app describing what you saw, including the username involved. Send feedback is under About in Settings (in older versions, it's the megaphone at the top of the home screen). You can also email support@humtoday.com. Every report is read, and child safety reports are handled first.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. In the United States you can also report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children through its CyberTipline.
What we do
- We remove CSAM and related content as soon as we become aware of it.
- We permanently remove the accounts responsible.
- We report apparent CSAM to NCMEC's CyberTipline, as US law requires, and cooperate with law enforcement and the relevant authorities in other regions.
- We preserve what the law requires us to keep for an investigation, and nothing more.
